About GMHBA and buZZ

GMHBA is a not-for-profit health fund based in Geelong Victoria. In fact more than 70 percent of our members live in regional Australia. That's why we're particularly keen to help regional communities and not-for-profit organisations.

Being not-for-profit means we need to be very careful managing the premiums we receive from our members. So while we're often approached by people wanting us to sponsor events, we simply have no alternative but to say no to many requests.

If the buZZ beta goes well, we may launch another not-for-profit website separate to the buZZ website. On this website people interested in health cover would be able to get an online quote. If they then decide to become members of GMHBA, we'll give 3.5 percent of the gross premium (5% of what people pay after the 30% Federal Government rebate) to health and community related causes.

If we proceed with this idea, the GMHBA health covers bought online will be the same available from GMHBA's branches and website. While the health covers and the premiums would be the same, the only difference would be that rather than pay brokers or agents commission, we'd be directly helping participating regional communities and not-for-profit charities instead. Pretty simple!

Importantly, Australia's leading consumer magazine has just awarded GMHBA more hospital cover best buys than any other health fund for the third year in a row! We're proud of this and see it as independent proof of the worth of our community focussed not-for-profit health fund! We exist to pay medical claims, not dividends to shareholders and we truly aim to be here to help!
